Whilst involved in rebuilding Toyota commercial vehicles for the mines, it was becoming increasingly difficult to source replacement spares at reasonable prices, resulting in a highly priced rebuilt vehicle assembled with used reconditioned parts. NCS Engineering has negotiated agency agreements with world class suppliers of certain drive train components, some of which are fitted on the 18 seater Underground Personnel Carrier (UPC) and will be fitted to other OEM vehicles that will be supplied to the market.

A replacement chassis is now available for the rebuild market through NCS Engineering, eliminating the need to use questionable second hand chassis. The chassis has been designed to be able to accommodate a Toyota drivetrain, as is commonly used in the market, or an alternative drivetrain made up of mine proven and highly rated new components.

NCS Engineering currently has the agency for the European EME axles supplied out of Italy. These axles have been proven in the construction industry all over the world and have undergone successful tests and applications in the mining industry in South Africa. the technical data for the steering and rear rigid axles is listed below:

  • Front Axle - steering axle, fitted with four pot caliper disc brakes and rigid steering link.

    • Track:                          1 530 mm
      Capacity:                     3 500 kg
      Differential Ratio:        4,375:1
      Limited Slip Ratio:      40 %

  • Rear rigid axle, fitted with MaximB fully enclosed SAFHAS (Spring Applied Failsafe Hydraulic Applied Service) brakes.

    • Track:                          1 530 mm
      Capacity:                     3 500 kg
      Differential Ratio:        4,375:1
      Limited Slip Ratio:      40 %
